Overview
Line Speed was born out of a collaboration between our studio and a bespoke automotive restoration workshop specializing in 1970s–80s era icons. Rather than present these vehicles as static collector items, the campaign set out to reframe them as timeless design machines — living, breathing objects of speed, sound, and movement.
The goal was to merge high-fidelity illustration with kinetic design and visual nostalgia — speaking equally to vintage car purists and younger, design-savvy enthusiasts.
Execution
We began with a suite of ultra-detailed linework drawings of legendary models including the Ferrari 288 GTO, Porsche 930 Turbo, and Lancia Stratos. Each illustration was engineered to convey both the elegance and brutality of its subject — stripped of color, rich in detail, and ready for motion.
These illustrations were then transformed into frame-by-frame animated sequences that recreated the physical sensations of speed: acceleration, gear shifts, tire drift, corner lean. The animations paired black-and-white linework with strategically placed neon accents — an homage to both the race track and arcade aesthetics of the era.
Assets were applied across screen-printed posters, apparel, collector box sets, digital ads, and a mini-series of social motion loops — all held together by a modular grid system and consistent graphic rhythm.
Visual language & typography
Inspired by 1980s racing ephemera and retro-tech magazines, the identity system was built around monospace typography, diagonal layouts, dotted grid textures, and punchy headline treatments. Neon accents served as both speed cues and visual anchors, while the overall tone balanced editorial restraint with racing-era energy.
Custom iconography and UI elements for the digital rollout mimicked analog dash meters, tachometers, and spec sheets — reinforcing the tactile connection to machines.
Community & Rollout
The campaign debuted as a hybrid gallery launch titled Drawn to Speed — an installation showcasing the animated illustrations in looping projection rooms alongside large-format prints and collector zines. A digital microsite extended the experience, offering behind-the-scenes process clips, downloadable specs, and limited-edition art for purchase.
An AR extension added an interactive layer: scanning any campaign poster with a smartphone triggered a seamless animation of the featured car coming to life — drifting, accelerating, and idling in endless digital loop. The activation drove strong community engagement, with over 12,000 poster scans in the first month alone.
The design prowess of Flare is truly remarkable. Their ability to translate abstract concepts into visually stunning representations is nothing short of exceptional
