Overview

The project was centered around Beneath the Ink, a meticulously crafted, hand-bound book that fuses marine biology, folklore, and fine art. Designed for a niche but passionate audience, the book’s intricate pen illustrations of divers and deep-sea creatures became the central storytelling device — both within the pages and across the campaign visuals.

Our goal was to reflect the book’s themes of mystery, silence, and discovery through a fully immersive and cohesive visual language.

Execution

We created a minimal yet emotionally resonant identity system inspired by field notes and antique scientific journals. The visual materials focused on contrast and texture — from animated spreads of swirling ink to tactile, screen-printed teaser posters. A moody short film served as the campaign’s anchor piece, featuring slow, fluid transitions that mimicked the sensation of descending into deep, uncharted water.

Packaging was designed to feel archival and precious: thick textured papers, blind embossing, and Japanese stab binding. The overall aesthetic aimed to slow the viewer down, encouraging intimacy and observation — just like the book itself.

Audience Experience

To heighten the launch, we designed a series of gallery-style activations that mirrored the visual tone of the book. In each installation, individual pages were suspended from the ceiling in dimly lit, sound-controlled spaces. Ambient audio and gently shifting lighting recreated the atmosphere of deep-sea immersion — quiet, mysterious, and a little surreal. Guests were encouraged to walk slowly through the floating pages, turning the exhibition into a living extension of the book’s storytelling.

Collector’s Campaign

To build early momentum and attract collectors, the first 300 copies of Beneath the Ink were offered as a special edition. Each came with a hand-numbered art print, a signed artist statement, and custom wrapping using screen-printed dive charts from the book’s concept phase. The exclusivity and craftsmanship helped drive pre-launch interest and led to a full sell-out within the first week of release.
